ORGANIZED 1895

The Deep Springs Baptist Church was the fith arm of the Dumplin Church that became a church. Prior to the summer of 1895, a Sunday School was begun at the Nelson School House, a log building, about five miles from the mother church. In Nov. of 1895, the peition to be organized was granted and on Nov. 27, 1895, with 41 members, the church was organized. The church met in the school house until completion of a church house in 1898, on one-fifth acre land given by William Holt and his wife Matilda. This frame building burned in 1940, but was rebuilt and used til Sept. 3, 1967 when a new brick veneered building was erected. The five acre plot on which the present church was erected was given by William Harris, Temple Harrris and Rebecca Linnen in 1896. The church has fathifully been pastored by 23 pastors.
