The name Piedmont, was chosen, as it was the post office destination. Previously, this community ws called Mount's Crossroads. The name Piedmont means "foot of the mountain". The first recorded religious service was a revival in 1882, conducted as an arm of Dumplin Baptist Church with their pastor attending. In Feb. 1887, Dumplin appointed a committee to organize a Sunday School at Piedmont. Later in 1887, another revival reocrded 28 being recieved as members. On May 1, 1891 thirty nine members of Dumplin , living in Piedmont, presented a petition for letters to form a new church of the same order and faith as the mother church Dumplin. Pastor David F. Manley, pastor 1894-98, led in purchasing church and cemetery lots and constructing the first church building that was dedicated Oct. 23, 1896. This building burned in 1913 and was replaced by a frame building in four months. The present brick veneered Sanctuary and Educational buildings were dedicated in 1962. A pastorium was also added at a later date. Two members and five pastors have become missionaries from Piedmont Church. The church has been faithfully served by over 34 pastors.
