ORGANIZED 1879

The church was organized by the Rev. J.L. Haggard, Nov. 28, 1879 with forty four charter members. Pleasant Grove Church joined the Tennessee Association (now Knox County) in 1880 and transferred to Jefferson County Association in 1923. Until a meeting house could be built, they met in the one room log Crowder Branch School House located on property known as Gillett's Cemetery. A one room building was built and used until a larger building was built in 1902. Sunday School rooms were added in 1939. With continued growth a new sanctuary and educational space was erected in 1948. To this was added an educational building in 1969 and still later, in1974 a new fellowship and educational building was completed. Over thirty two pastors have faithfully served the church. Two of the church pastors have become Associational Missionaries in Tennessee: Joe T. Carter and G. Clifford Puckett. One member, Roy Stallings, became a Pioneer Missionary in Montana.
