ORGANIZED 1833

Rocky Valley Baptist Church was the first "arm church" organized by the Dumplin Church. It is locate half-way between the Dumplin location and New Market. In 1808 an "Arm" was organized in Brother Daniel Hull's house. The church met regularly and through the years many were won to Christ in Rocky Valley. On June 1 1833, a petition from the "arm" was recieved by the mother church (Dumplin) desiring to be constituted into a church. The next Sunday, June 8,1833, the Rocky Valley Baptist Church was organized. The Rev. Duke Kimbrough, pastor of Dumplin, became their first pastor (he continued pastoring Dumplin). Four meeting houses have housed the church. The first a log sturcture on the Loy farm. The second build in 1860 ws on the Kivette farm. In 1928 a frame building was built on the pike road, on a site donated. The present building, of native stone, was built in 1949 on land donated. The bell, more than one hundred years old, has worn out two buildings and still calls people to worship today. A pastors home was erected across the road from the church in 1957. One member and two pastors from Rocky Valley have become missionaries. The church has faithfully served by over thirty seven pastors.
