ORGANIZED 1891

A revival meeting in the White Pine Presbyterian Church initiated an interest and on July 13, 1891 a meeting was held in Tom White's home for the purpose of organizing the White Pine Baptist Church. Charter members were eleven members by letter and five by baptism. The five were baptised that afternoon in Long Creek by Brother E. Allison, who was chosen to be their first pastor. The present lot was purchased in 1893 and the first building begun. Using 57,000 bricks burnt by Sam Bell on a nearby lot, John Lester laid the brick. The church was completed in 1894. The church held "preaching" once a month until 1913, when they became half-time and a joint field with Dandridge, First Baptist Church using the same pastor. In 1928 an addition was added to the building for educational space. The church began full time in 1949. In 1954 a two-storied brick veneered educational building was built. In 1974 the present sanctuary and educational building was built and occupied. In 1978 the church was declared debt free!! The church has been faithfully served by over twenty-two pastors.
